Same Language Subtitling (SLS) is simply the idea of accurately subtitling (on a phonemic level) the lyrics of existing film songs (or music videos). Basically, Karaoke text used to support reading! In 2013, the U.S. Department of Education Institute for Education Sciences (IES) recognized Same-Language-Subtitling as a promising reading intervention demonstrating significant impact to reading comprehension. www.same-language-subtitling.com

This presentation will give a short overview of SLS: What it is, why it impacts reading, and practical tools to incorporate into the classroom.

1) Music Video used as a Repeated Reading Activity., 2) Karaoke Software Programs repurposed for subtitling activities.
